Year 5/6 Step Back in Time for Tudor Day!

Our Year 5 and Year 6 pupils recently experienced a truly memorable Tudor Day, bringing history to life through drama, costume, and hands-on activities. Both children and staff embraced the spirit of the day by dressing up in Tudor-style clothing, setting the scene for a day full of learning and fun.

The morning began with a dramatic Tudor courtroom trial, where pupils took on roles such as:

  • A village miller accused of fiddling the measures of his flour,
  • A pickpocket charged with cutting a purse from a belt,
  • And a wise woman suspected of witchcraft!

Each character gave a convincing defence, but the jury found all three guilty, much to the excitement of the audience. The children fully immersed themselves in the drama, showing fantastic enthusiasm and acting skills.

Later, the pupils recreated a Tudor classroom, writing with quills and ink wells, just as children would have done in the 1500s. They also played traditional Tudor games, and even took part in a Tudor-style battle on the playground—marching, handling replica weapons, and staging a mock skirmish.

This immersive day was closely linked to the children’s history topic on the Tudors, helping them to:

  • Understand the daily life and justice system of the time,
  • Experience education and entertainment in Tudor England,
  • And reflect on how life has changed over the centuries.

It was a fantastic way to deepen their historical understanding through role play, creativity, and active learning. Well done to everyone for making Tudor Day such a success!
