Year 3/4 Road Safety Week
Road Safety Week – Learning to Stay Safe on Our Streets
Year 3 and 4 have been taking part in Road Safety Week, an important initiative to help children understand how to keep themselves safe when walking near roads—especially on the way to and from school.
We began by discussing the potential dangers we might face, such as busy traffic, obstacles on the pavement, and the risks when crossing roads. The children learned key safety rules, including:
- Stop, look both ways, and listen before crossing
- Concentrate and avoid distractions
- Never play or use phones while walking near roads
We talked about why these steps are so important and how being alert can prevent accidents. The children were shocked to learn how dangerous it can be if we’re not paying attention!
To share what they learned, pupils created their own Road Safety posters with bright designs and clear messages to help others stay safe too.
Why is Road Safety Week so important?
Teaching children about road safety helps them develop lifelong habits that protect them from harm. It encourages responsibility, awareness, and independence—skills they’ll use every day as they grow.
Well done, Year 3 and 4, for your fantastic ideas and teamwork in spreading this vital message!
