Step Back in Time: Year 3/4 Discover the Secrets of Stonehenge!
This week in History, our Year 3/4 pupils travelled back to the Neolithic era to explore the mystery and wonder of Stonehenge. Working in small groups, the children created short adverts to promote the site, explaining what visitors might see and why it’s such an important part of British history.
Each group focused on key facts, including:
- Stonehenge was built over 4,000 years ago, during the late Neolithic period.
- It is made up of massive standing stones, some weighing up to 25 tonnes.
- The stones are arranged in a circular layout, and no one knows exactly how or why it was built—though many believe it was used for ceremonies or as an ancient calendar.
- Stonehenge is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and attracts visitors from all over the world.
Although presenting in front of the class can be a little scary, every pupil showed great courage and did a brilliant job. The lesson was a fantastic blend of historical learning, creativity, and public speaking. Well done, Year 3/4!
