Year 2 Step Back in Time at Forest School
Year 2 had an exciting and imaginative Forest School session today as they linked their outdoor learning to their history topic on Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale. Using a combination of creativity, teamwork, and Forest School skills, the children set out to make their very own herbal medicines, just like Mary Seacole did when caring for wounded soldiers.
The children gathered natural materials, discussed their properties, and worked together to create mixtures inspired by the remedies used by nurses in the past. Their enthusiasm and curiosity brought history to life in the most hands‑on way!
To extend the experience, the children even set up their own outdoor hospital under our brand‑new classroom shelter. They put their caring skills into practice by treating an “injured soldier” — and who bravely volunteered for the role? Miss Mantle‑Taylor, of course!
There was plenty of laughter, lots of creativity, and a huge amount of learning. The children showed brilliant teamwork, problem‑solving, and a fantastic understanding of how nurses in the past helped others.
A wonderful day of history, imagination, and outdoor adventure!
