Year 2 Get Creative with Instruction Writing!
This week, Year 2 have been learning all about how to write clear and accurate instructions—and what better way to practise than by making something exciting!
Yesterday, the children wrote step-by-step instructions for creating an origami Santa. Once their instructions were complete, they put them to the test by following them to make their very own Santas. Today, the fun continued as they learned how to make a marshmallow snowman. Again, they wrote the instructions first and then followed them carefully to create their delicious snowmen.
This practical approach really helped the children understand why instructions need to be clear and precise. It also gave them the chance to use creative skills while applying their writing in a real-life context. Activities like this are so important because they combine literacy with hands-on learning, encouraging problem-solving, sequencing, and imagination.
One pupil said:
“I had so much fun making the marshmallow snowman—it was the best part of the day!”
Well done to everyone in Year 2 for working so hard and showing how writing can be creative, practical, and tasty too!
